Short Description
In hypertension the vascular changes which occurs in the genital penile blood vessels may lead to erectile dysfunction. Anti anxiety drugs and alpha and beta blockers may disturb ejaculation and erçtion. During sexual intercourse both systolic and diastolic blood pressures will raise and the heart rate increases.This can have adverse effect if there is very high BP.In mild cases and in controlled hypertensive there is no contra-medication for sexual activity.
Diabetic patients usually suffers from decreased libido,ejaculation and erectile dysfunction. This is because of neurovascular mechanism of erçtion.Due to neuropathic disturbances there can be ejaculatory disturbances including retrograde ejaculation. Diabetic women can suffer from anprgasmia,lack of arousal and dyspareunea.Good control of diabetes, use of creams and jellies as lubricants and continuation of sexual activities are advised. Treatment and counselling may help the patients greatly. Good genital hygiene and treatment of fungal infections are also important.
Drugs that affect sexual function act on: Central nervous system.:The sedative effects of analgesics,sedatives and tranquilizers inhibit sexual drive,reduce libido and slow arousal. Parasympathetic nervous system: Anticholinergic drugs block the chemical mediator acetyl-choline and impair ereçtion or arousal. Sympathetic nervous system:Anti strategic drugs block nerve imlses to the structures controlled by the sympathetic nerves,impair ejaculation or orgasm.
Depression and anxiety are anti erotic and are frequently associated with a reduction in libido and Impaired sexual arousal. Successful treatment usually leads to an improvement of sexual function due to the reduction of symptoms and not to a direct effects of the drug .
Homosexual Obsessive Compulsive Disorder or sometimes called "Gay OCD" or sexual orientation OCD. Obsessive Compulsive Disorder is a behavioral disorder where in people commonly have intrusive thoughts or obsessions, which they are unable to get out of their mind, unless they engage in a specific behavior or pattern of behaviors, to make the thought go away (and the anxiety with it.) HOCD is one form of OCD, where the obsessive thought is, in essence, "Maybe I'm actually gay." This fear may seem somewhat far-fetched today, in our society, which has become more accepting of homosexuality and many people might respond and say "So what if you are, it's not a big deal anymore!".
Tricyclics are in the treatment of depression and sexual side effects are rare. A high doses the sedative effect may impair libido. Imipramine .sex drive usually improves as the depression is alleviated.Rare cases erectile and ejaculatory impairment have been reported.
